Here I plan to post some of the books that I’ve found useful over the years.

I am currently reading:

This is a fabulous, cheap, little book about drawing the human figure. It’s really great. If you really want to improve your figure drawing ability, this is the way to go.

You know how you are supposed to measure the human the human figure in heads and the face in eyes? Hamm breaks down how that works. I’ve been going through the book, page by page, copying his drawings and I really feel that my figure drawing skills have improved a lot.

A few days ago I ordered a bunch of books on web development, including AJAX, Javascript, PHP and MySQL. I also got this book on basic HTML and CSS. My HTML/CSS knowledge feels scattered, and just from the first few chapters I’ve learned a number of useful things.
My mom had picked this book up for herself, but I got my hands on it and read it before she had a chance. It’s a great book. I’ve recently realized how I’ve been lacking in the self-promotion, professionalism and networking arenas. I do a LOT of the mistakes that she describes in this book. There is a quiz in the book, and from it I learned that my weak points are self-promotion and demeanor. I frequently downplay what I’ve done and am doing. I tend to say that I’m ‘just hanging out and drawing’ instead of saying that want to produce my own animated series.

Software and Programming:

Want to learn Flash Actionscript? Just read through this text, trying out the examples, and you’ll get it. It’s comprehensive – eveything you’d ever want to use Actionscript for is detailed in this book. I love the Bible series. Buying their books always feels like a good investment.
I learned Flash when I was in High School, using the “Flash 5 Bible.” If you really want to learn Flash, or any other software, the Bible series is the way to go.
